Wenger is monitoring the situations of Loris Karius at Mainz and Tobias Sippel at Kaiserslautern, both of whose contracts expire in the summer, a more likely time than this month for any transfer to be conducted.
Wenger considers both goalkeepers good enough potentially to supplant Szczesny, whose status as Arsenal’s undisputed No 1 has been damaged by his errors on the pitch this season and his lack of professionalism in taking a cigarette into the showers after the match away to Southampton.

Ospina was due to play in the FA Cup anyway as part of Wenger’s squad rotation, regardless of Szczesny’s actions, although the No 1 goalkeeper’s form has been poor and there was a case for dropping him even before his two errors against Southampton. (...)
